My History
Michael was born in wartime England on the 2nd. November 1940. He was brought up in a strict religious Christian sect known as The Exclusive Brethren. His home was Redhill Surrey. Michael ran away from home and traveled to London aged 12 with his twin brother Charles to witness the Coronation of H.M. Queen Elizabeth 2nd.
Michael was always a rebellious child who would not conform to his strict upbringing, running away from home several times and finally making a complete break from the family just before his 16th birthday. He knew this decision would cause a permanent separation from his family and they would have nothing more to do with him. This proved to be the case.
Leaving School at 15 yrs of age with no qualifications, Michael started work on the railways as a cleaner, later as a stoker. He was often moving with no permanent home and sometimes sleeping rough in railway carriages, waiting rooms, and even on the footplate of steam locomotives in Redhill Shed. Michael also got into trouble with the Police which is mentioned in more detail within.
Later he worked in various hospitals which helped with living in accommodation provided. At one time caring for 70 disturbed patients in a remote country house, this was on night duty; and on his own. Later he gained experience at a general hospital working in the Operating Theatres, Casualty, and occasionally the Mortuary when required.
Michael married Josephine Housden in April 1965. There are three children, Ruth Jason and Lydia.
